Getting Started

Do I have to audition? No – we don’t hold auditions for new members, just come along and start singing!

Do I need to be able to read music? Due to the pieces we perform, having some ability to read music is preferred, but if you don’t know how (or are a bit rusty), we can point you in the direction of some excellent online resources.

I haven't sung in a long time—is this for me? We have lots of members who have joined us after not singing for years. It’s like riding a bike – you don’t forget how to do it!

What if I don’t know my voice part (Soprano/Alto/Tenor/Bass)? We can help you discover which part suits your voice.

Can I come along to try a session first? Absolutely! We also hold annual “Come and Sing” events which non-choir members can join. Click here for more details. We also have a new members evening on the first rehearsal of our winter term (in September). Simply fill out the form on the Join Us page to register your interest.

Rehearsals and Location

When and where do you rehearse? We rehearse on Thursday evenings, from 7.30 – 9.30pm, in St Mary’s Church Hall, Ross-On-Wye. Our 2026 / 2027 schedule starts in September.

What if I cannot attend every rehearsal? We understand that sometimes our members have other priorities, which means missing a rehearsal.

Is the venue accessible for disabled people? Yes, both the church hall and the church itself are wheelchair accessible.

Is parking available? Some street parking is available around the church. Although there are no time restrictions in the evenings, it is on a first come first serve basis.

Do I need to buy music? Only if you want to! We have all performance music available for you to hire.

Performances

How do I purchase tickets? Tickets can be purchased directly through our website under the "Buy Tickets" section, where you’ll find details of pricing, including concessions for students and those under 18. (Note: Tickets are non-refundable). If you lose your ticket, please contact us through our website or Facebook page providing your full name, the number of tickets purchased, and the event for which they were bought.

What is the etiquette for each event? Please arrive on time. If you are late, please wait until the interval to enter, if one is available. We recommend dressing comfortably and warmly (particularly for our winter concerts!) Ensure your phone is on silent during the concert, and kindly refrain from taking photographs or videos during the performance.

Where do the concerts take place and how long do they last? Our concerts take place at St Mary’s Parish Church, Ross-on-Wye. Each concert typically lasts around two hours.

Can I purchase a concert programme? Absolutely! Programmes are available for purchase on the night.

Where do I share my concert experiences and feedback? We would love for you to share your experience with us - tag us on Facebook or use our website link
